Yokote City

Yokote City

Yokote City is located in the southern part of Akita Prefecture. Blessed with abundant water and hot springs, the city holds traditional seasonal festivals such as “kamakura,” a small New Year’s event that has continued for about 450 years. The Masuda area, located in the southern part of the city, is home to the Yokote City Masuda Manga Museum, as well as a row of merchant houses dating back to the Meiji era (1868-1912), and the gorgeous “uchigura,” or earthen storehouses built inside the houses, are among the highlights of the area. Visitors can also enjoy Yokote’s unique experience at the Akita Furusato Village, a general theme park, and at the Kamakura-kan, where the traditional winter event “kamakura” can be experienced all year round.
