Kitakyushu City

Kitakyushu City

Kitakyushu City has long flourished as an important transportation hub connecting Kyushu and Honshu. The Kitakyushu Manga Museum is located in Kokura, and is popular for its corner introducing the life and achievements of Leiji Matsumoto, a manga artist associated with Kitakyushu, and for its corner where visitors can freely read approximately 70,000 manga books. Kokura Station is also full of spots where visitors can meet Leiji Matsumoto’s characters, including bronze statues of Mater and Tetsuro. A short stroll through the Mojiko Retro District, where visitors can enjoy shopping and dining in a retro townscape, is recommended, as is a view of the magnificent Kanmon Straits, which connect Kyushu and Honshu.
